Janet McLachlan
Head Music Therapist, Glasgow
Janet joined Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland in August 2003, having qualified in the inaugural year of the Postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy (Nordoff-Robbins) at the University in Edinburgh.
Janet has clinical experience working with children and adults in a range of fields, including learning disability and mental health including dementia care. She is currently working in schools and at the Nordoff-Robbins Fife clinic with children who have additional support needs and autistic spectrum disorders. Janet also provides music therapy to a Children’s Hospice, working with children and young people who have life-limiting conditions, and also supporting their families.
Janet has presented her clinical work widely, including papers at the BSMT/APMT Annual Conference and the Annual National Conference for Specialist Psychiatric Registrars in Learning Disability.
Prior to training as a music therapist, in 2000 Janet gained an MA degree in Scottish Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and subsequently worked as a freelance arts and events manager. She lives in a cottage in Dunblane with her husband Malky and daughter Maisie who was born in July 2008.
